Whether your buying one for your home or business, many people are buying used standby generators. It’s a great way to get a high quality generator at a reasonable price. But there are important factors to consider before purchasing, here’s a look of what we think is most important.

How Old Is It?

Know how many hours the generator has run, its age and history. Most generators have a built-in odometer that can give you some insight into its history.

Continuous or Stand By?

Ask whether the generator was used continuously to generate power or was a standby generator. As a rule, standby generators that are used for power backups are better maintained than generators in continuous use.

Check the Model and Manufacturer

Investigate its Records

Make sure you gather information on the generators maintenance within the maintenance records. Also judge how much the seller knows about maintenance needs and repair.
