Snow blowers first hit the marketplace for homeowners to buy in the 1950s. And every winter since, more and more people are throwing down their shovels and welcoming a new snow blower to the family.
But as time continues to fly, let’s stop and take a look back at some Snow Blowers of the Past!
Toro Snow Hound (Mid 1960s)
Toro was the first company to release a consumer walk behind snow blower, the Snow Hound, in 1952. The Snow Hound models ranged between 17″ – 25″ wide.
Ariens Sno-Thro (1971)
Ariens Sno-Thro snow blowers were introduced in 1960 and have grown into one of the most popular brands of snow blowers today. Ariens celebrated the production of the 2 millionth Sno-Thro machine in 2005.
Honda HS55 & HS70 (1984-1987)
1980 marked the beginning of Honda’s entrance into the snow blower industry. Honda produces around 50,000 snow blowers in Japan and the U.S. per year (source: Honda Worldwide). They’re track drive system is well known for excellent traction on hard-packed snow and ice.
Simplicity 870S (1991)
In 1962, Simplicity joined the snow blowing craze with their Sno-Away model. Now they offer a full line of single stage and two stage units.
